State of Connecticut To Launch Falls Prevention Coalition

The Connecticut Department of Aging and Disabilities Services (ADS) and the Department of Public Health (DPH) are partnering to launch a statewide falls prevention coalition called Falls Free CT.  The Bureau of Aging is inviting Connecticut Hospital Association (CHA) members to participate in the initiative.  Click here to view the formal invitation from ADS.

The purpose of the coalition is to unite falls prevention champions who are committed to reducing the incidence of falls among older adults, educating professionals and the public about the importance of falls prevention, and sharing resources and best practices.  State data from 2022 shows unintentional falls were the leading cause of nonfatal injury among adults 65 years and older, and adults 65 years and older represent 86% of Connecticut’s fatal falls and 72% of nonfatal hospital admissions related to a fall.

The coalition’s virtual kickoff meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024 from 1:00-2:00 p.m.  To learn more about the opportunity to join Falls Free CT and how to register for upcoming meetings, please contact Angela Vázquez with the Bureau of Aging at angela.vazquez@ct.gov.
